Since I've been doing better lately, I don't have as much to post about, but I try to stay active so people have someone to talk to/don't feel alone (which is why I started this thing in the first place). I had my partner read it and she thought it was something I'd written!

I too suffer from crippling emetophobia and the ever changing diet known as IBS.
I'm veggie/vegan outside of the home, I have developed hands-free strategies for eating difficult things in public and I will only eat with my hands if I have immediately washed them (count to 30!) and not touched anything except my food exclusively at home.
Some call it OCD, anxiety or even just crazy but I like how it brings out the creativity in me.

I found your blog after just spending another evening locked in my favourite place - the bathroom.

Long I have suffered and your blog has given me the laugh I feel I truly needed this evening.

Forgive me for rambling but it's not often I find something so relatable!
I wish you were still active because I feel like I have found some sort of relatable IBS haven.
Hope ya bowels aren't getting you down in 2017! I stopped after the paragraph about your emetophobia and subsequent germophobia. You could be describing me! I knew there must be other people out there, but I've never met/come across alone! I'm literally a little starstruck right now. I'll probably go back to the very beginning of your blog and read it all the way through, because I'm obsessive like that, but WOW. I went twenty years without vomiting, and somewhere in there I developed a MAJOR phobia. Then I got food poisoning about five years ago, and I threw up once. I haven't since, but an obscenely large percentage of my life is spent avoiding occasions where I may vomit/be around someone who may vomit/may contract germs or virus that could make me vomit. And I have extreme IBS and poo issues that are agitated all the more by my paranoia and phobia. I'm so glad I came across this -- it made my day for sure! So glad I'm not alone :)helloandeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12971081813078902329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-19888406415366720112016-04-18T08:05:01.420-05:002016-04-18T08:05:01.420-05:00Hey Rachel! IBS is no fun but I'm glad you have the courage to help spread awareness about it. And since it's IBS Awareness Month (April), I figured I'd show some love and support to your blog. I have a YouTube channel where I kinda "vlog" about my IBS. Please check it out and if you like my videos, then please subscribe and share them to help me raise and spread awareness about this condition. Here's a link to one of my videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKFRN4vUVDM I would really appreciate the support! Peace and positive vibes! I am 23 years old and I have had the IBS symptoms for about 6-7 years but I have just been aware of it for 1 year. I have found many problems that we share together in the fight against IBS. Most of my friends and relatives wouldn't accept the fact that I can't eat or drink alcohol like they do in every party they throw and I don't even want to explain to them what is happening. Recently, I have taken up meditation and tai chi, so I will definitely inform you about the results if they work for me.Lee Haihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15903798440872928797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-3361793039141265092015-11-19T02:04:59.081-06:002015-11-19T02:04:59.081-06:00A little off topic. I never knew why, and it never crossed my mind until I read this. I unfortunately do have the "V" side effect that most don't get, so I have an intense fear of food now, and everything to do with body imagine. I lost sight of how to take care of my body and maintain the good health that is possible with this disease. I am starting a new journey of exploring my options. I particularly found it comforting to know I'm not the only one who feels stigmatized! I'm 20 and actually find it so hard to discuss my IBS with anyone. I've been so lonely, especially since starting uni, as don't know how to approach it with my flatmates. I felt so alone I actually started to blog myself (although I've only done a few posts so far) at http://ibsconstipationhowitis.blogspot.co.uk/
But then I realised I could also search for other peoples' IBS blogs and it's honestly such a relief to know I'm not alone! I felt like it was just me as I don't know anyone else with chronic IBS!
I'd really appreciate it if you could have a look at my blog (just because at the moment I honestly think I'm the only one reading it!). But either way, thanks for such a great blog, I'll keep reading!Louisa https://www.blogger.com/profile/08211464326627818769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-454655716269048092014-08-28T07:41:01.834-05:002014-08-28T07:41:01.834-05:00Have you ever thought of going on a low FODMAP die...Have you ever thought of going on a low FODMAP diet. I'm a 28 year old nutritionist and I suffer with IBS-A and up until recently, I used to dread my monthly cycle. I would get really constipated about a week before I started and once my cycle began I would get diahorrea, vomiting and cramps as bad a labour.

I say "Up until recently" because for the past 2 1/2 months have been on a low FODMAP diet. I think this has helped me as, it gives your bowels a chance to heal from the bloating and inflammation caused by IBS symptoms triggered by food. I have had 2 period cycles since being on the elimination diet and both times I haven't had to take pain killers or had constipation or diahorrea as a result of starting my period. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't cured my IBS, I still get the symptoms if i'm stressed or if I slip up on the diet, but life is so much easier to manage now.

With regards to birth control I don't have much experience. I would believe that it could have an impact on your IBS as it unbalances your hormones and the digestive system is closely linked to the endocrine system. Again the nightmares are due to your hormones changing. I would suggest riding it out for another month to see if your body can balance out the hormones but if it gets worse it may be best to have a back up plan.

If you want to check out the low FODMAP diet I usually post recipes for people with IBS and digestive health. www.balancedgrub.com

Best of Luck

:)Balanced Grubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16989843884495561888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-15330855681018796332014-08-22T15:10:01.847-05:002014-08-22T15:10:01.847-05:00Good luck in taking that often misunderstood route...Good luck in taking that often misunderstood route. The best one can do in those kinds of situations is to ensure that the method of birth control is safe and harmless as possible. It is natural so you don't have to have a concern of pills affecting your symptoms. Its quite scientific if the woman is on top of her dates. Day One: First day of Period Day 13-15: Ovulating. If you refrain from ejaculation during days 12-16 you shouldn't get pregnant. There are apps now on smart phones too. T...I've just stumbled upon your wonderful blog. Thank you for having this. It's such a great resource and means of support. I am currently going through one of my worst episodes. My stomach has been like this since I was little, just like you. I've seen so many doctors and had so many tests done and sometimes I feel like it is never ending.

My weight has fluctuated so much over my life. Currently, I am weighing in at 200, which is the heaviest I have ever been.. About two years ago I weighed about 120 pounds, but starting fainting and was diagnosed with dysautonomia. (YAY!~*) Over the last two years I would have "mini" episodes but nothing too terrible so I was eating just about anything and dealing with the consequences: horrible gas, abdominal pain and needing to get out of bed 2 hours earlier to have enough time to empty my bowels before work.
This all seemed to be going pretty well until last week I landed in the hospital with chronic pain, bloating, and just this horrible heavy feeling up under my ribs.

I prayed that it was my gallbladder and they would take it out and it would be the end of my problems.

Nope. They sent me home with a diagnosis of gastritis and IBS - and prescriptions for bentyl, zantac, and zofran for nausea. It's so hard for me to take a slap in the face like that after praying so hard that it would be something fixable, I'm sure you understand.

The doctor gave me direction to seek an appointment immediately with a GI that's affiliated with the hospital I went to... However, the nurse or receptionist I spoke to told me they would not give me an appointment as my condition was not severe enough.

Like really? I think that being unable to eat anything solid, spending an hour in the bathroom more than 3 times a day, having uncontrollable pain, and embarrassing gas constitutes as severe.

It's so hard to be taken seriously... What's worse, is having gained this weight the immediate response of anyone (including my primary doctor) - "Well, you don't look sick." "You certainly seem to be holding your weight well."

Geesh. After this spell though, I don't think I will keep weight on... and maybe everyone will take me a little bit more serious. :/

Sorry for the REALLY long reply. Just a lot of feels, man! lol. Thanks again for your blog. It's great :)

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11723680424969666944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-89313744214477507492014-05-10T08:19:57.014-05:002014-05-10T08:19:57.014-05:00Hey....Dr i am also suffering from this deadly dis...Hey....Dr i am also suffering from this deadly disease but my symptoms are little different..... a little help would be of great use.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14386447353307945544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5639078653517443819.post-61710462904244401572014-04-13T22:18:46.951-05:002014-04-13T22:18:46.951-05:00Yes, this is exactly how people perceive me, espec...Yes, this is exactly how people perceive me, especially at work. The sad thing is that people do not realize that it makes a person feel self conscious. It also does not help that I am thin. My diet is very limited and I have tried a million diets and seen a variety of doctors. I have come to the realization that I need to take it upon myself to do the research to find something that works. I tried the LOW FODMAP diet and the low carb diet. They have given me some relief, but they didn't work for me completely. I have read about SIBO, but the antibiotics given to help a selected group have worked in the short term. I have always noticed something was not right with my digestive system when I was in elementary school. My IBS became more noticeable in Junior High, but I was not diagnosed until 10th grade. I have had IBS-C for about 23 years and I would not wish it on anyone. Thank you for sharing your blog with us! =0)bookwormhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00399176971642795103noreply@blogger.com
