- I started having random stomach pains when I was 5 years old
- When I got to 2nd grade (I was 7), I got banned from the nurse's office because they thought I was lying about my stomach hurting and just skipping class because I was there so often
- My parents decided that maybe I wasn't lying and took me to quite a few doctors. All I remember from this time is that I had to go to the hospital a lot to see my doctor, and that they did a lot of unpleasant tests on me
- This was the year I was diagnosed with IBS (the first time)
- Fast forward to high school- my IBS had died down for whatever reason, and I ate like there was no tomorrow. I could eat fried chicken, half a pizza, etc etc and have no issues. I also couldn't gain any weight...win, win
- In December of 2006, I went out for wing night at Buffalo Wild Wings just like I had done every Tuesday for 2 years, but this night I got food poisoning
- This triggered a whole new round of IBS, but it was much more intense and nasty
- I went through a series of tests the next year to rule out, once again, things like Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, lactose intolerance, Clostridium difficile infection, cancer, etc etc
- I was eventually re-diagnosed with IBS and set free to figure it out on my own
- I finally felt like I had a handle on things in 2010
- Towards July of 2011, I had started rotations in my last year of Pharmacy School, and the IBS started to go downhill again
- Now I'm left trying to figure out how to get my life back again
Disclaimer: Before trying ANYTHING I mention on my blog, please talk to your doctor first. While what I talk about here has worked for me, we all know that IBS is a varied syndrome and what works for me could possibly do harm to you. This blog is not intended to treat or diagnose you.
